A new freight advisory council has been established in New South Wales to provide expert advice to the Minister for Roads and Ports, and Transport for NSW on strategic issues impacting efficiency and productivity within the freight industry.

The council will act as Transport for NSW’s sounding board for freight strategic planning, policy and program functions and provide insight on freight issues affecting industry, as well as the viability of future freight network projects and initiatives.

As prominent users of the NSW freight network, the council members will provide a ‘ground truth’ perspective through their professional expertise in managing industry supply chains covering rail, road, air and sea freight.

The eight-member council consists of Transport for NSW’s Rachel Johnson, deputy-director general freight and regional development division, and seven senior private sector representatives from major commodity supply chains and logistics providers within the freight industry.

These members are:
• Ron Finemore AO – executive chairman, Ron Finemore Transport
• Tony Haggarty – MD, Whitehaven Coal
• Maurice James – MD, Qube Logistic Holdings
• John Mullen – CEO, Asciano
• Nicolaj Noes – MD, Maersk Australia
• Blair Price – GM - wood panels, Carter Holt Harvey
• Alison Watkins – CEO, Graincorp

Members have been appointed for a one-year term and are eligible for reappointment.  The council will meet quarterly with the chairperson position to be shared by the members on a rotational basis.
