This year's Awards for Excellence will include "Olympic categories". |
To inject some fun into its annual Awards for Excellence, the Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA) has launched seven new, one-off "Olympic categories".
FLTA CEO David Ellison says the special categories were included to add fun into the event "without compromising the integrity and authority" of the established awards categories.
A special award is also being introduced to commemorate the association's 40th anniversary. The Victor Ludorum award will acknowledge the outstanding contribution made in the 18 years of the Annual Awards for Excellence.
"Every Award encourages and rewards those who aim high and excel. This one-off Award is the ultimate prize," Ellison says.
The special categories are in the spirit of the Olympic Games, which will be held in London next year. Manufacturers are invited to enter the four Olympic special categories of "weight lifting" for the heaviest forklift, "high jump" for the highest lift with a duplex mast, "triple jump" for the highest lift with a multi-stage mast and "sprint" for the fastest lift.
The other three Olympic special categories are for forklift owners and operators - the "marathon" category for the longest journey under a forklift's own power, "veteran" for the oldest in-service forklift and "gymnastics" for the most unusual forklift photograph. As the FLTA promotes safety awareness, images showing unsafe practises will not be considered in the latter category.
To be eligible, a new product or service needs to have been made available for purchase from 1 October 2010 to 30 September 2011.
Nominations are invited for the Ergonomics, Environment, Safety and Innovation categories, and the Safe Site Award. Application forms and further guidance on nominations can be found at:

The deadline for entering in these categories is 30 September 2011.
Winners will be announced at a ceremony on Saturday, 18 February 2012 at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Birmingham.
