The Province of Alberta's employment and immigration ministry has printed 10,000 copies of its Forklift Health and Safety Best Practices guideline in an ongoing effort to improve occupational health and safety
(Forkliftaction.com News #525).
The agency distributed 6,000 copies through safety organisations such as the Manufacturers' Health & Safety Association and the Alberta Construction Safety Association. Many of the copies were provided to workers attending forklift safety courses.
A thousand copies went to employers, with many of those distributed during a focused forklift safety inspection campaign that ran from 22 February to 18 March, involved 87 employers and 181 inspections and resulted in 214 corrective orders relating to forklifts and other powered mobile equipment.
Another 1,000 copies have been, or will be, distributed at trade fairs and to employers, forklift safety trainers and others. The remaining 2,000 copies have been allocated to the agency's contact centre.
The Edmonton-based agency completed development of the 48-page guideline in December.
