Konecranes has received another rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) crane order from port and logistics service provider Luka Koper in Slovenia.

The order comprises two RTG cranes. Luka Koper is a long-term Konecranes customer, already operating the manufacturer's ship-to-shore and RTG cranes, and grab unloaders. The latest RTG cranes will be delivered in 2012. The value of the order is confidential.

Roberto Levanič, head of Luka Koper's technical department, says the company has partnered with Konecranes for over 11 years.

"We follow their innovations and development in the field of crane construction, and very often these play a key role in supplier selection. In particular, we appreciate their prompt response and assistance in the event of any potential equipment malfunction, something which is of crucial importance in maintaining unhindered cargo-handling operations," he explains.

Luka Koper is a public limited company providing port and logistics services in the Port of Koper. In addition to the Slovenian market, Luka serves Austria, Italy, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bavaria and the countries of the former Yugoslavia. In 2010, the compnay reached a container throughput of 475,000 TEUs.

The cranes ordered are equipped with the latest DGPS-assisted (differential global positioning system) technology for container yards. This includes an auto-steering feature, which keeps the crane on a pre-programmed straight driving path. The RTG container positioning system is connected to the port's terminal operating system, ensuring correct, real-time container positioning and maintaining accuracy in inventory.

The cranes, which have a 40 T lifting capacity, will also be equipped with technology for remote monitoring, predictive maintenance and remote support. They can lift one-over-five containers high, and seven-plus truck lanes wide. The eco-efficient Konecranes fuel-saving system that will be included claims to reduce fuel consumption significantly by eliminating high-speed idling. It also reduces noise and emissions.

The first Konecranes crane was delivered in 2002. After delivery of the latest order, Luka will have a total of 10 Konecranes RTG cranes in the Port of Koper.
