In modern intralogistics, where efficiency and precision are crucial, automated guided vehicles (AGVs) are becoming increasingly important. AGVs operate in complex, dynamic environments and must not only navigate precisely but also pick up and transport loads safely. At the same time, they must integrate seamlessly into existing processes - economically, with low maintenance, and with high operational reliability.

This is exactly where the new generation of VETTER SmartForks AGVReady comes in: intelligent forks that take safety, efficiency, and reliability to a new level.

Smart Sensors for maximum Safety

The AGV forks from fork manufacturer VETTER Industrie GmbH in Burbach were developed specifically for these requirements. Integrated sensors in the fork blade and fork tip detect cargo and potential obstacles even as the AGV approaches. This is particularly important because safety-critical environmental sensors on the AGV are temporarily deactivated during load pickup.

During insertion into the load carrier, sensors provide additional safety: They detect obstacles, identify damaged pallets or sagging loads, and prevent accidental penetration of the goods through precise insertion depth measurement.

Control remains seamless even after pickup: Sensors monitor the position and stability of the load in real time. They detect whether the goods have been picked up correctly and whether they shift during transport. Special coatings further reduce the risk of slipping—without compromising sensor performance.

Another safety feature: Since AGVs cannot assess the load capacity of loads on their own, sensors detect overloads based on the deflection of the fork tips. Additional monitoring of the load moment to prevent tipping hazards is already in the works.

Customized solutions from a single source

In addition to its technology, VETTER stands out with a holistic approach: An experienced team of experts accompanies every project from the initial idea to the final integration. Together, sensor concepts are developed that are precisely tailored to the customer’s specific requirements.

The result is ready-to-install complete solutions with preconfigured sensor technology, tested functionality, and optimally coordinated mechanical integration. Standardized interfaces such as I/O-Link and CANopen ensure easy integration into existing systems.

VETTER’s AGVready forks enable autonomous transport vehicles to precisely detect, reliably handle, and safely transport loads—making them a strong partner in the intralogistics of the future.
