Emirati-owned port operator DP World (Dubai Ports World), says it has become the first terminal at Brazil's Port of Santos to deploy a fully electric reach stacker.

Its terminal at the Port of Santos recently accepted delivery of three new reach stackers and 15 electric internal terminal vehicles (ITV), as it pushes forward with decarbonising its operations.

“With this deployment, DP World becomes the first terminal at the Port of Santos to operate a fully electric reach stacker,” the business states.

DP World says the new fleet of ITVs are expected to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 500T, when compared to conventional diesel-powered equipment.

DP World has spent more than BRL100 million (USD19.5 million) electrifying 22 rubber-tyre gantry (RTGs) cranes at the Santos terminal, helping it to realise a 29% reduction in diesel consumption between January and April of 2026, compared with the same period in 2024.

The Santos terminal is one of Latin America's leading logistics gateways and connects Brazilian exporters and importers with global markets. 

“These continued investments in infrastructure and equipment are expanding capacity, enabling faster, more efficient and more sustainable cargo flows, while reinforcing Santos' role as a strategic gateway for Brazil's international trade,” DP World states.
