6 Steps to Pick the Perfect Matching Model
A forklift seat directly impacts operator comfort, long-term fatigue and driving safety. Seats for forklifts of different load capacities and working conditions differ drastically in suspension, upholstery and mounting dimensions. Many procurement and maintenance personnel frequently encounter issues including chronic back pain from bumpy rides, incompatible base mounting holes and mismatched spare parts due to improper parameter matching during selection.
Hangzhou Benfeng Auto Seat Co., Ltd. has focused on manufacturing industrial vehicle seats for years. As a professional forklift seat manufacturer with a full lineup of standardized BF seats, we have developed a six-step selection guide to help you accurately find compatible forklift seats.
Step 1: Choose the Right Suspension Type
The seat suspension structure is critical to long-term driving comfort. Benfeng’s full BF series covers two core categories: seats with independent suspension bases and simple rigid seats without suspension, suitable for all forklift working scenarios.
1. Seats with Independent Suspension Base
Suitable for internal combustion forklifts of 3 tons and above, rough-terrain forklifts and heavy construction vehicles. All Benfeng suspension seats adopt all-mechanical spring structures that require no external power or air supply. Built-in springs deliver cushioning with adjustable weight adaptation. Mechanical spring suspended models include BF2, BF5, BF6 and BF16 series, equipped with multi-stage suspension springs with adjustable travel ranging from 40mm to 80mm, ideal for regular factory yards and bumpy gravel roads. The premium BF16 model features an 80mm full suspension stroke, supporting weight adjustment from 45kg to 150kg. It has passed the ISO7096 vibration safety certification, and the entire suspension range complies with EU EN13490 IT1 & IT2 vibration standards, making it the mainstream factory option for heavy counterbalance forklifts. Selection Tip: If you opt for a suspended seat, measure the length and width of the mounting holes on the suspension base in advance. Benfeng supplies multiple standard base plates including 260×282mm and 330×285mm, and custom non-standard bases are available to match original vehicles.
2. Simple Rigid Seats Without Suspension
No bottom buffer structure; basic cushioning is achieved via high-density integrated foam sponge. The slim, compact design takes up less cab installation space. Suitable for small electric warehouse forklifts, narrow-aisle stackers and light-duty short-distance handling equipment operating on flat indoor ground with short single-shift operation, featuring lower procurement costs. Classic entry models BF1-1 and BF1-2 fit the original slide rails of most small warehouse forklifts from Hangcha, Toyota, Mitsubishi and other brands.
Step 2: Select Seat Upholstery – PVC Vinyl / Fabric Cloth
All Benfeng BF series seats offer two upholstery options for flexible selection based on working environments.
1. PVC Vinyl (Standard Upholstery for All Benfeng Models)
Thickened industrial wear-resistant PVC material with waterproof and oil-proof properties. Oil stains and dust can be wiped off effortlessly. It is the top choice for cold storage, outdoor yards, dusty heavy industry and workplaces with frequent hydraulic oil exposure. Tear-resistant and anti-aging, it resists cracking under low temperatures with minimal long-term maintenance costs. Most domestic and overseas forklift supporting customers choose this material.
2. Fabric Cloth (Optional Upgrade)
Breathable flannel fabric that prevents stuffiness during long shifts, only applicable to constant-temperature clean indoor warehouses and light-duty short-cycle operations. Drawbacks: Prone to dust buildup; oil stains cannot be fully removed once soaked; susceptible to mold in humid environments. Not recommended for outdoor or heavy-duty applications, mainly used for high-end indoor electric warehouse forklifts.
Step 3: Confirm Backrest Specification & Seatbelt Configuration
Benfeng seats are standardized into high-back and low-back designs, all fitted with safety belts that meet industrial standards to satisfy on-site operation and export compliance requirements.
1. High-Back vs Low-Back Backrest
- High-back seats (Standard for BF2, BF5, BF6, BF16 suspended series): Extended wide backrest fully supports shoulders, neck and the entire spine with a large reclining angle. Designed for heavy-duty forklifts with 8+ hours of daily continuous operation, it effectively relieves lumbar and cervical strain from long driving hours.
- Low-back seats (BF1, BF8 basic series): Compact overall size to save cab space with a moderate reclining angle, mostly used for small electric warehouse forklifts and intermittent short-cycle stackers.
2. Seatbelt Introduction
Seatbelts are mandatory safety accessories for forklifts. All Benfeng seats reserve standard mounting positions and come with certified seatbelts upon delivery, divided into two versions: with interlock plug and without interlock plug.
- Plug-equipped version: The seatbelt end is fitted with a standard plug that connects to the forklift’s original safety interlock sensor. The vehicle cannot start if the seatbelt is unfastened, enabling strict safety control, widely adopted for electric forklifts and export equipment.
- Plug-free version: Basic retractable seatbelt without wiring harness plug, meeting fundamental personal protection needs, suitable for internal combustion forklifts and simple warehouse equipment without electronic interlock requirements. When placing orders, confirm whether your vehicle requires a seatbelt interlock function to select the matching version and avoid accessory mismatches.
Step 4: Optional Armrest Configurations
Benfeng BF series features modular armrests for flexible selection according to cab space and daily operation demands.
- Dual Armrests: Optional for BF16 heavy-duty suspended seats with adjustable angles to support arms and reduce limb fatigue during long shifts.
- Single Armrest: Designed for narrow-aisle reach trucks, retaining one armrest to reserve ample movement space for control levers.
- No Armrest: Standard for BF1 basic lightweight seats, maximizing saved installation space for compact small forklifts.
Step 5: Precisely Measure Base Mounting Dimensions (Critical to Avoid Installation Failures)
Benfeng designs two sets of standardized bases for suspended and rigid seats. Take corresponding measurements before purchasing based on seat type:
- Suspended seats: Measure the length and width spacing of four mounting holes on the bottom suspension base. Benfeng’s standard universal base plates fit most mainstream forklift hole pitches on the market.
- Rigid non-suspended seats: Measure the center distance between two slide rails. BF1 series slide rails support front-rear stroke adjustment, compatible with most domestic and imported small electric forklifts.
Mounting bases and slide rail hole pitches vary across different forklift brands. Direct procurement without prior measurement will easily lead to unmatched fixing holes. If your original vehicle has special hole spacing, Benfeng’s R&D team can customize matching bases according to measured data without large-scale modification of the forklift frame.
Step 6: Match Electrical Switches & Wiring Harness Connectors
All Benfeng BF series seats support optional OPS off-seat safety micro switches that automatically cut off driving and lifting power when the operator leaves the seat – a mandatory safety accessory for forklifts. Wiring harness connectors are universally compatible, available in 12V and 24V specifications to fit forklift electrical systems.
- Two standard connector solutions: Dedicated direct-plug wiring plugs and universal adapter tail wires.
- Matching solution: If the original vehicle interface fits Benfeng’s universal adapter, no connector replacement is needed. For incompatible interfaces, Benfeng supplies matching connectors to eliminate safety hazards such as short circuits and malfunctioning safety switches. Wiring harnesses for export models fully comply with European and American electrical standards to adapt to overseas forklift electronic control systems.
Summary of Complete Benfeng Seat Selection Workflow
- Judge working condition and vehicle model to choose suspended or rigid seats: Select BF2/BF16 mechanical spring suspended models for heavy-duty forklifts; BF1/BF8 rigid seats for small warehouse forklifts.
