Sport-loving TVH employees jumped on their bicycles and pedaled a total of 1,000 km in a marathon to raise funds for cancer research.
"Kom op tegen Kanker" ("stand up for cancer" in Belgian) held its second marathon this year where teams had to ride 1,000 km in four days. Each team paid a EUR5,000 (USD7,175) registration fee, which was given to the charity.
TVH employee Eddy Ackou approached one of TVH's owners, Bernard De Meester, about participating in the marathon and rallied colleagues to raise the registration fee.
From a big breakfast to a wine and cheese tasting, Ackou's colleagues organised various fundraising activities to support their company representatives' participation.
On 5 May, the ball was set rolling with a huge dessert buffet where each dessert was baked by TVH employees and sponsored by Vandemoortele Bakeries. Other activities included a belly dancing event, car wash, sausage fry-up and a breakfast. Sponsors included André Devos, Koen Verlinden, Supra Fruit, Materne Confilux, Ranson Bakery, Detry Deli, Mik Dairy, Deneve Cream plant, Dobbels Lefevere Beverages, Vondelmolen, BDS and Witdouck Catering.
The enthusiastic activities of Ackou and his colleagues raised EUR6,995.14 (USD10,000). Ackou and six colleagues participated in the marathon which raised funds for leukemia research.
