PSA Antwerp orders 14 hybrid straddle carriers
Antwerp, Belgium
Kalmar will supply 14 straddle carriers to PSA Antwerp
Helsinki-headquartered materials handling equipment producer Kalmar, has signed a deal to supply 14 Kalmar hybrid straddle carriers to PSA Antwerp in Belgium.
Under the deal, booked in Q1 2026, Kalmar will deliver the hybrid straddle carriers with a combined diesel engine and battery system which recovers and reuses energy, in Q4 2026.
Jurgen De Wachter, general manager, PSA Antwerp, says the hybrid straddle carriers contribute to its broader efforts to modernise terminal equipment and reduce emissions in daily operations.
Earlier this year PSA Antwerp took delivery of five new mega ship-to-shore cranes from Chinese manufacturer ZPMC (Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries), which were equipped with energy-efficient electric drives and regenerative energy systems.
Damien Cols, director global customers with Kalmar, says the new straddle carriers for PSA Antwerp, will enhance the eco-efficiency of the terminal’s cargo handling operations.
