Sany delivers electric reach stacker to MexicoAPM Terminals Yucatán has introduced the first 100% electric reach stacker at Mexico’s Port of Progreso.
The 45T Sany reach stacker can stack up to five containers high, can travel at 25km/h, is equipped with a 507 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, and has an estimated operating range of 8 to 10 hours. The CCS1 charging system allows the battery to be fully charged in approximately 90 minutes.
APM Terminals Yucatán is the only container terminal located within the Port of Progreso and states the acquisition of the electric reach stacker is part of its modernisation plan, which includes new technologies, electrical infrastructure and equipment aimed at strengthening operational efficiency.
It also helps the company continue towards realising its ambitions of reducing CO2 emissions.
APM Terminals says, compared with an equivalent diesel-powered unit, the electric reach stacker is estimated to reduce CO2 emissions by some 125T annually.
“With this addition, APM Terminals Yucatán is positioning Progreso at the forefront of port electrification in the region,” APM Terminals, a subsidiary of AP Moller-Maersk states. “The equipment is one of the first of its kind in the Gulf of Mexico and the first in Yucatán.”
Víctor Konen, managing director of APM Terminals Yucatán, says the modernisation of the terminal also represents an opportunity to transform operations for sustainable growth for Yucatán and its community.
"The introduction of electric technology and new infrastructure enables us to improve operational efficiency and strengthen the competitiveness of Puerto Progreso, positioning it as a strategic logistics hub for the region and a driver of economic development for the state,” Konen adds.
