Briggs Equipment has acquired Hiremech, an independent dealer based in North London. Under the deal, Hiremech will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Briggs and will continue to trade under its own name with all current operational contacts remaining in place. Following completion of the acquisition, Hiremech will represent the Hyster and Utilev brands of forklifts as well as having access to Hako and JLG Equipment. MLA Holdings, a leading Australian forklift company, has expanded into the Newcastle, Hunter and Central Coast region of New South Wales with the purchase of two long-established forklift businesses. STILL has appointed a new distributor in Israel, Eagle Forklifts and Logistics Ltd. in Tel-Aviv, to consolidate its position in the Near and Middle East region. A French government minister had to be evacuated last week when protesters smashed through the main gate of the ministry in Paris using a forklift truck during the latest "yellow vest" street demonstrations. Riwal started 2019 with a new acquisition, Danish rental company AH-Lift ApS. The Dutch aerial work platform and telehandler rental specialist made the acquisition at end of 2018. Confidence in the United States equipment finance market fell in December, with a fifth of respondents in the Monthly Confidence Index expecting conditions to worsen over the next four months. Some 65.5% of respondents believe business conditions will remain the same over the next four months, while just 13.8% of executives responding believe business conditions will improve. Singapore has charged two Chinese migrant workers for demanding bribes as small as SGD1 (USD0.73), according to a Reuters report. The news agency reports that Chen Ziliang, 47, and Zhao Yucun, 43, both forklift operators, face a fine of up to SGD100,000 (USD73,000), prison for up to five years, or both. Liebherr Maritime Cranes has delivered the first of two LHM 550s to Euroports Germany in the Port of Rostock. Euroports, one of the largest port infrastructure companies in Europe, aims to increase its turnover considerably with the new cranes.
