The HARTING Technology Group has opened a production facility near the Polish city of Bydgoszcz, where subsidiary HARTING Customised Solutions (HCS) is now manufacturing tailor-made solutions in its 500 sqm facility. More than 1,000 exhibits are expected at this year’s ProMat 2019 event from April 8-11 at Chicago's McCormick Place. NEX Logistics, a subsidiary of Japan’s Nippon Express, has ordered a forklift fleet from UniCarriers for its warehouse in Bedburg/Erft, Germany. The logistics service provider has added 37 new vehicles to ensure a smooth flow of goods. KION Group is planning to expand its factory in Summerville, South Carolina to avoid the 25% tariff on forklifts imported from China. About half of the 3,000 vehicles KION sells in the US each year come from China, where KION operates two forklift manufacturing facilities. Forklifts are known for their horsepower, and in Huntington Beach, California, that’s just what a machine exhibited when it was used to rescue a horse from a dumpster. According to reports, the horse climbed up onto a platform next to a dumpster at the Goldenwest Stables near the Huntington Central Park Equestrian Center and fell inside. Online retail giant and logistics innovator Amazon is working on safety vests to protect its workers from AGVs and warehouse robots. According to TechCrunch, Amazon last year began rolling out a new worker safety wearable to 25-plus sites. Police are investigating the death of a veteran forklift truck driver whose machinery toppled over on a Wavertree building yard and killed him. A preliminary inquest hearing into the death of 62-year-old Robert Ambrose was heard before coroner Anita Bhardwaj this week.
