Fact of the week
Why are denim jeans traditionally blue? While most natural dyes penetrate the cloth fibres when heated, the indigo dye binds externally to the cloth's threads and doesn't reach the core of the yarn. With each washing some of the dye molecules are stripped away which makes the denim fade as the undyed core appears.
