General Manager / Operations Manager / Branch Manager

Turn-Around Management / Start-ups / P&L Responsibility / Sales and Operations Management

Turn-Around Management: In two of my previous positions I successfully returned declining businesses to profitability by initiating changes in sales strategies and operational procedures. These processes included using different marketing approaches, training or re-training sales teams and staff, and improving customer service operations. These improvements focused on delivering the highest quality of customer service, creating "win-win" partnerships with clients, and delivering high value products and services rather than low price.

Start-Up Management: I was fortunate enough to be part of a start-up operation in which we built a new business, with no revenue, into a profitable major competitor in our market. Through a strong commitment to delivering excellent customer service, recruiting solid service and support staff, staff training, team building, sales and marketing efforts, and much hard work, I created a proficient and successful operations team. The results of this work produced a very profitable business, and culminated in our branch of the company receiving one of the highest awards in the material handling industry - Toyota's President's Award (2002).

Skills and Achievements

Skills: P&L and budget responsibility, proven leadership and organizational skills, developing client partnerships, strategic planning, project management, inventory control, problem solving, team building, "Lean" implementation, strong verbal and written skills at all levels, solid computer skills (MS Office, Outlook, etc.).

Achievements:

 As Branch Manager for the Caterpillar Lift Truck dealer for Central Indiana reversed annual financial loss in operations of $50,000 and generated net profits exceeding $230,000 (1993-1995). Received WIESE's Branch Manager of the Year award in 1994.
 As Operations Manager for the Toyota Lift Truck dealer for Central Indiana drove growth of a start-up business creating and supporting sales to an annual level exceeding $10,000,000 (1995-2003). Received Toyota's President's Award for 2002.
 As General Manager for the Toyota Lift Truck dealer for Western Michigan halted annual financial losses of $275,000, increased sales 66% in a declining market (2003-2008), and rebuilt the business into a profitable operation. Implemented standardization program for used equipment processing and sales, implemented standard sales training, and introduced Lean concepts into the business operations. Received Toyota's President's Award 2005, 2006 and 2007.
 As Branch Manager for the Hyster and Yale lift truck dealer for Central Colorado, coordinated new facility construction, supervised business relocation, and managed multi-branch consolidation, cost reductions and downsizing.

Inside Forkliftaction
This week's news comes to you from Hannover, where editor Allan Leibowitz is on jury duty for the 2020 edition of the IFOY (international forklift and materials handling solutions of the year) awards - and the preview of what used to be CeMAT but is now part of the Hannover Messe exhibition.
Adverse weather conditions in Europe made it a demanding journey, with a nine-hour delay in Singapore and an afternoon of cancelled connections from Munich.
Travel is an essential part of global business these days, but our experience as a result of a couple of days of extreme weather is a reminder of how we have come to rely on efficient airline operations - and how easily the system breaks down when things go wrong.
One can only imagine how this kind of transport turmoil would have affected the two giant European trade shows next month and the Modex Show in the US. And that's before we even consider the impact of the coronavirus threat which has authorities on high alert at major airports around the world.
It's not a great time to be travelling!

Pregnant women have been found to attract roughly twice as many mosquito bites.
Mapping the Earth in 3-D
An archaeologist and a geographer are looking to document the entire planet in 3-D before the biggest effects of climate change take shape. They plan to reveal topography, ruins, vegetation, and other wonders that aren't visible in satellite photos and, in many cases, can't even be seen on the ground.
