Discussion:
Monotrol has no neutral position

Hi, I have an old LP truck, Hyster S155XL (B024) that has a monotrol that is not hinged in the middle like the newer ones I've seen on electric Hysters. In essence it's acting like a big rocker switch -- you're either in forward or reverse, no neutral. So when you start up and release the parking brake the truck wants to travel in whatever direction was last used. I can cut back the idle to make it not lurch as much but this doesn't seem normal. Is there a middle position for that pedal and mine is defective ? The customer seems to have been driving it like this for a long time.
Any help would be appreciated

Yup works ok once I got the idle down and the parking brake switch reconnected. It came in a hazard though.
I'm still not a big fan but at least it's now functioning as intended.

If you release the park brake, you should have your foot on the brake pedal, causing the inching to dump the pressure to both transmission clutch packs. That is your neutral. You can then select the Monotrol pedal direction, ease the brake pedal off, and be smoothly on your way.

It's the second one, with the magnets. That's crazy that it's always in either fwd or rev. I know my e-brake isn't cutting it out so I'll have to check that. I'm also going to shoot for the lowest idle I can get away with.

Thanks for the info. Knowing that it's supposed to be like that is a big help.

The very old mono pedel used Tran fluid that went into the pedal to control forward and reverse when the truck was not running it was always in forward position or when first started after you released the emergency brake it was in forward how it was done under the petal was a metal band that was attached to a bolt that you could adjust to hold the petal in forward position only if you tap the petal to reverse would it go in reverse l believe that they'd that so you would not run over someone when you released the emergency break handle. The newer mono had magnets under the petal to hold them in gear it used electric solenoids to control the trans and switches in the pedal. If there was some other system l have never seen it hope L was of some help.
