Discussion:
Construction worker looking to get HGV licence where do I start?

Hi everyone,

I'm a construction worker and I'm looking to expand my skills by getting an HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) licence. I'd like to be able to drive larger vehicles on site and on the road, and I think it would open up more opportunities in the industry.

Has anyone here gone through the process of getting an HGV licence while working in construction? I'd love to know:

Which category of licence (Cat C or Cat C+E) is most useful for construction work?
Are there any training providers you'd recommend?
How long did the training take, and roughly what did it cost?
Did your employer support you, or did you fund it yourself?

Any advice from people with experience would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!
