Tokyo, Japan
Friday, 16 Feb 2001
TOKYO, Japan -- Shinko Electric Company plans to enter the engine-powered forklift market in a bid to increase its domestic market share from 4% to 6% by 2002.

The Nikkei Industrial Daily News (NIDN) said Shinko began selling 67 Sumitomo Nacco Materials Handling Company engine-powered models and planned on selling 500 units, for JPN (Yen) 600 million, this year.

In another report, the NIDN said Japan's forklift sales had risen 10% since 1999. Forklift production grew 13% in 2000 to 111,251 units, the first time more than 100,000 forklifts had been produced since 1998.
