OHIO, USA -- Crown Equipment Corporation has won two Industrial Designers' Society of America (IDSA) awards for the SC 4000 series sit-down counterbalanced lift truck and the 2000 series pallet truck.
The company's products both earned 2000 Gold Industrial Design Excellence Awards after two-and-a-half days' deliberation over 1078 entries by the panel of 16 jurors.
IDSA juror Noel Mayo said the Crown SC 4000 was "pre-eminent" in its design.
"The forward-tilting steering wheel allows safe entry and egress. It also provides service access to critical areas without tools, increasing workforce productivity and safety," he said.
Mr Mayo also applauded the 2000 series pallet truck, noting its decreased turning radius and stylised look.
"The pallet truck, with its beautiful soft lines, retains a sense of strength. The rounded front end ... reduces potential for accidents and injuries," he said.
Entries were submitted across 47 categories, ranging from cars and computers to museum exhibits and furniture. Each entry was rated across five categories: design innovation; ecological responsibility; appropriate aesthetics and appeal; benefit to user; and benefit to the client/business.
Crown, the world's seventh-largest lift truck manufacturer, has won more than 40 design awards for its products since the 1960s.
Its heavy-duty electric lift trucks include narrow aisle stacking equipment, powered pallet trucks, order picking equipment and forklift trucks.
