RAEDER-VOGEL: Special wheel materials for cold store and deep-freeze applications

Thursday, 18 Oct 2007
VULKOLLAN® wheels for industrial trucks.*
Deep-freeze and temperature-controlled operations may require special wheel materials for safe and productive operation due to extreme temperatures and harsh conditions. With our broad range of high-quality wheel materials with different shore hardnesses, we can offer solutions for almost any application.

The high-quality tread material VULKOLLAN® fulfils almost all the requirements of modern industrial trucks regarding wear resistance and damping. However, this material reaches its limits in deep-freeze applications down to –35° C. Especially on heavy-duty narrow-aisle trucks and reach trucks, flat spots develop overnight on the load and drive wheels. Due to the low ambient temperatures, these flat spots are slow to recover and can thus cause intolerable vibration. To avoid this we recommend the use of wheel treads with a higher shore hardness (95° Shore A instead of the commonly used 93°) which are more resistant to flattening and are consequently quick to recover their shape in the morning.

TRACTOTHAN® wheels for industrial trucks. *
Traction and wheel grip problems on trucks shuttling goods to and from deep freeze and cold store areas – especially on the drive wheels of shuttle systems and tiller-steered trucks – can be overcome by using VULKOSOFT® or TRACTOSOFT® treads with the lower shore hardness 85° Shore A. Improved traction and reduced risk of sliding lead to higher transport safety and higher output.

In mixed operations, i.e. for trucks that travel from the deep-freeze area to the loading zone or onto the ramp for truck loading, additional traction problems are caused by humidity due to condensation. Our special wet grip TRACTOTHAN® and TRACTOSOFT® treads - compounded in a patented process using a granulate with lower shore hardness - offer the acceptable solution.

VULKOLLAN®-Quartz wheels. *
For very tough extreme corrosion/wash-down applications, e. g. in the fish, poultry, meat and dairy industries, VULKOLLAN®-QUARTZ, where silica sand is embedded in the base material, is the best, but very abrasive, alternative. It should therefore not be used on sensitive and coated floors. VULKOLLAN®-QUARTZ provides significantly improved traction on extremely humid, slippery and greasy floors and where there is a danger of icing. The shore hardness is 94° Shore A.

Stainless steel PE·VO·LON® and VULKOLLAN® pallet rollers with plastic sealing and V-ring gaskets. *
Stainless steel pallet rollers with plastic sealing and V-ring gaskets are used in corrosive environments, food processing, pickling, tanning, salt and brine environments. They are available with PE·VO·LON® (high-quality thermoplastic polyamide) or with VULKOLLAN® tread.
