The Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) will relocate its shipping and cargo inspection staff to improve response times.

Forty staff based at the Port of Brisbane and the AQIS regional office at Eagle Farm, Brisbane, will move into Port Central 1, a new state-of-the-art building at the Port of Brisbane, by June 2007, an AQIS statement said.

"The new accommodation locates our officers on-site. Our operations at the port are pivotal to ensuring quarantine and export integrity of international trade is maintained," the statement said.

The move would "bring AQIS closer to industry" and "allow faster response times".

AQIS provides quarantine inspections for cargo, mail, animals, passengers, and plant products arriving into Australia and inspection and certification for agricultural products exported from Australia.
