FORMER LINDE EXEC IN NEW AUSTRALIAN VENTURE

SYDNEY, Australia
Thursday, 1 Aug 2002
The former chief executive of Linde's Australian operation has launched a new business in the materials handling support services industry.

Frank Espig, who left Linde last October, has launched Apex Associates Pty Ltd to provide sales and support to the Australian market, which he said were "severely lacking". Mr Espig was replaced at Linde by Glen Butler.

Apex aimed to be a total forklift service solution; a single business through which forklift users could obtain parts and technical and warranty support, Mr Espig said. The idea for the business occurred to him several years ago.

"The industry is divided. The associated services industry hasn't grown in line with the materials handling industry. Apex will represent many companies and provide technicians for support," he said.

"Forklift buyers and users are more complex now. They want to be able to access new and better parts and services, and comprehensive technical and sales support post-purchase."

Apex, operating from Newington, Sydney, represents three brands so far: Hoppecke forklift batteries, Meyer International forklift attachments and Grammer forklift seats. A strong showing at the Food Processing Exhibition 2002, July 21-24, at Darling Harbour, Sydney, had netted much interest and several orders, Mr Espig said.

"It's been very encouraging to start with. We are taking new orders every day, and plans for expansion are already in progress," he said.
