PCC ACQUIRES LONG REACH'S SWINGSHIFT DIVISION
Kincheloe, United States Thursday, 8 Nov 2001
KINCHELOE, USA -- Rough terrain forklift mast maker PCC Superior Fabrication, a division of PCC Specialty Products, has acquired the Swingshift mast division of Long Reach Inc, a division of TBM Holdings.
Production under the new arrangement, which saw the transfer of production equipment, inventory and intellectual property, began on November 1 after the deal was finalised last month.
Long Reach president Bill Sample said the sale was part of a broader restructuring plan to sell off "key, non-strategic" lines. Long Reach would now focus on its core products such as lateral clamps, carton clamps, paper roll clamps, rotators and push-pull attachments.
"We are concentrating our efforts on standard forklift attachment products and returning Long Reach to its former niche market position," he said. "We are de-emphasising the production of special attachments, highly engineered units and other non-strategic product lines."
The sell-off is a seachange for Long Reach, which last year hit the headlines in several strategic acquisitions, notably loading dock and safety equipment maker Blue Giant, bought from Clark Materials Handling Company late last year, and pallet-stacker maker Lee Engineering Company in May 2000.
Long Reach, which has made attachments and other hydraulic materials handling equipment since 1934, was acquired by TBM in February 2000. TBM also owns Presto Lifts in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, USA.
PCC Superior Fabrication began manufacturing rough terrain forklift masts in 1987, and has grown the business to now average annual production volumes of 2000 masts and carriages.
