Konecranes receives design award
Hyvinkää, FinlandKonecranes' Agilon material management solution has been awarded a Red Dot Award: Product Design 2014 for its design quality.
The patented materials inventory and management system consists of a net portal, a shelving system and a robot that travels within the shelving. It picks parts listed by an operator and takes them direct to a service point.
Konecarnes industrial design manager Johannes Tarkiainen says, besides a "modern and harmonic outlook, Agilon's user experience is impressive". "The user can feel the results of creative and multidisciplinary design work."
In 2013, Konecranes received the same award for its multi-branded electric chain hoist series.
More overseas firms at CeMAT
Hannover, GermanyThe CeMAT intralogistics trade fair this year will see a significant jump in the number of international exhibitors.
CeMAT 2014, on 19-23 May, is expected to attract more than 1,000 exhibitors from 40 countries and occupy more than 120,000 sqm (1,291,600 sqft.) of exhibition space.
More than 60% of exhibitors will be from outside Germany, Dr Andreas Gruchow, from event organiser Deutsche Messe's managing board, says.
Overseas participants include manufacturers from Belgium, China, France, the UK, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden and Spain.
Toyota competition winners selected
Hannover, Germany Toyota Material Handling Europe's international jury has elected the most innovative tow tractor design proposals for its design competition.
First prize winners are Nea Kosonen and Elisa Määttänen, from Turku University of Applied Sciences Industrial Design, Finland. Their tow tractor design was noted for its adaptability to different driver sizes thanks to a low step-in and telescopic steering arm.
Second prize went to Thomas Jankauskas, from Pforzheim University, Transport Design, in Germany. His proposal, named 'Toyota NPS', stood out for its "unique angle and futuristic approach to intralogistics and the tow tractor".
Third place was granted to Mohammad Moradi, from the School of Art Weissensee Berlin, Product Design, in Germany. Moradi's tow tractor was designed with drivers' needs in mind and focused on safety and sustainability in materials handling operations.
The winners were awarded during a CeMAT preview press event on 19 March in Hannover.
