After an 18-month construction period, Jungheinrich moved the central spare parts warehouse and management division at Norderstedt to its new centre in Kaltenkirchen, north of Hamburg last month.
The EUR35 million (USD46 million) centre is located on about 65,000 sqm (700,000 sqft.) of land. The new facility features 20,000 sqm (215,278 sqft.) of storage space, including a 31 m (101 ft.) tall high-rack warehouse and over 65,000 items stored in 110,000 storage slots.
The warehouse has an output of up to 1,000 list items per hour and in three different time zones - America, Central Europe and Asia.
"This means Jungheinrich is setting a new standard in spare parts logistics, consolidating its competitive advantage in the spare parts business and expanding its spare parts availability rate to over 98 % for its globally active clients," says Dirk Schulz, head of after-sales service.
Office space at the spare parts centre takes up 3,800 sqm (40,900 sqft) and is designed on an "open space" principle.
Head of spare parts management Stefan Brehm says the new arrangement will result in "transparent and direct communication paths between staff members" and incoming orders can be processed more efficiently.
About 250 people have moved from the old location to the new centre.

Separately, Jungheinrich has celebrated the 10th anniversary of its Russian sales subsidiary. Jungheinrich entered the market using a German and a Russian distributor in 1993. By 2003, the company had delivered over 5,000 trucks to the Russian market.
Last year, the company sold over 3,000 industrial trucks and is represented in nearly all regions in the country, with sales branches in Moscow (where the main office is located), St Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Novosibirsk, as well as a central spare parts warehouse 65 service base stations between Kaliningrad in the west and Khabarovsk in the east. Today, about 20,000 Jungheinrich industrial trucks are operating in Russia.
There were fewer than 20 employees when the company was founded. About 350 staff are now employed in Russia.
