BRAMBLES AUSTRALIA SELECTS WEBB/ELWELL-PARKER AGVs FOR 25-TONNE STEEL COIL HANDLING SYSTEM

Jervis B. Webb Company, announced the acceptance of a contract from Brambles Industrial Services to supply an Automatic Guided Vehicle (AGV) System to move massive steel coils in BlueScope Steel’s (formerly BHP Steel) Packaging Products manufacturing facility at Port Kembla, New South Wales, Australia.

Webb engineers will design and integrate AGV guidance, controls and software for seven heavy-duty vehicles. The mechanical portion of the vehicles will be manufactured in Elwell Parker's factory in Bedford Park, Illinois. Automatic controls will be supplied and tested by Webb. Brambles Industrial Services will install and operate the material handling system.

The system will handle steel coils weighing up to 25 metric tonnes through manufacturing and process operations at BlueScope Port Kembla Packaging Products plant. The first AGV is scheduled for testing and completion in March 2004 --- with full program implementation and commissioning scheduled for June 2004.

This will be the second Webb/ Elwell-Parker AGV project completed for a BlueScope Steel plant, the first with Brambles, in New South Wales. Jervis B. Webb Company has partnered with Elwell-Parker for numerous heavy-duty AGV projects (up to 250,000 lb capacity) in the primary metals manufacturing industry.
