In an industry where heavy lifting demands the need to move materials and containers quickly, the underlying issue of safety has become a priority. In short the NearGuard system utilises Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to prevent collisions with obstacles or personnel. The NearGuard system consists of a minimum of two sensors that are mounted on the lift truck, one at each end of the lift truck, and RFID tags. The tags can be attached to a wide variety of customer-defined subjects including work clothing worn by employees, other items of mobile operating equipment, or stationery obstacles. in the cab (
shown below), that gives operators a clear visual indication of the direction and proximity of any RFID tag within range of the machine. Also an inbuilt audio alarm feature adds further safety by alerting the operator. The system automatically engages at a range of 50 metres.
In the field the NearGuard system makes operation safer especially on sites where trucks frequently pass under conveyors or when driving in and out of warehouses. The system allows operators to focus on the job knowing that the NearGuard system will assist them if needed, by alerting them in time to avoid possible collisions. This allows operators to do their jobs with less stress, greater efficiency and safety.
