Briefs Local News - 16 Jun 2011 ( #518 ) 1 min read UK family business seals dealGlasgow, IrelandFamily-run forklift supplier Northern Forklift has won a GBP1 million (USD1.6 million) contract with Highland Spring, providing 30 forklifts to the bottled water business.Managing director Andy Sirel says the contract is "a really important win" for his company as it secures its position as one of the leading forklift providers in Scotland and Northern Ireland.Daniel Muir of Highland Spring says his warehouse can hold 12,000 pallets of water and up to 2,000 are shipped each day. "The plant is very busy, so the reliability of the trucks was essential."Scholarships for Tohoku Uni studentsTokyo, JapanRio Tinto and Komatsu Group are offering scholarships to Tohoku University students affected by the earthquake that hit Japan in March.While details of the scholarships are still being worked out, Komatsu pledges to engage in long-term activities to support students whom it says will play a leading role in Japan's manufacturing industries in the future.The Rio Tinto-Komatsu scholarships are worth JPY400 million (USD4.97 million) over a 10-year period.
