Proventia, an international emission control company, has complemented its electrically regenerated product family with CHILITM filters. CHILITM filter cleans the emissions from engines smaller than 130 kW. What makes CHILITM so convenient for use in forklifts is the compact size and particularly the self-maintaining capability. Low load applications such as forklifts have quite low exhaust temperatures, which precludes the use of passive filters. CHILITM s operation is based on active regeneration by electricity, which means that regeneration is independent of vehicle duty cycle and the temperature. In CHILITM filters, the filter temperature is raised electrically to the optimal level for regeneration.

CHILITM's operation is based on CARB-approved filter technology of sintered metal filters. CHILITM filters use several filter elements: when one of the elements needs regeneration, exhaust gases pass through other filters. What makes CHILITM's regeneration unique compared to other electrically regenerated filters is that the filter itself serves as a resistive heater that draws the power needed for regeneration from the machine's electrical system. The regeneration takes place during driving and is fully automated and needs no attention from the driver.

"CHILITM is a smart system. Continuous back pressure measuring controls the regeneration so that the regeneration process will not start too early, but only when it is necessary", clarifies Petri Saari, Vice President of Proventia Emission Control. "Gradually, CHILITM's control system 'learns' the operation routines of the machine and activates the regeneration in intervals based on the earlier operation routines. The back pressure measuring, however, guarantees the timely regeneration - even if the routines change", Saari continues.

CHILITM's emission reduction performance is excellent, with over 90% PM reduction, and when equipped with CO and HC pre-catalysts, over 80% PM reduction is achieved. Worth mentioning is also the fact that CHILITM does not increase NO2 emissions.

"Our forklift customers as well as other customers with load applications have been enthusiastic about CHILITM's technology. A self-cleaning, user-friendly filter operating without any additives and driver intervention is attractive as the emission regulations become tighter globally and locally. There are no other emission control products for low-load diesel machines on the market that would be as easy to use as CHILITM and yet efficient in cleaning the emissions", says Petri Saari, Vice President of Proventia.
