The PTX-550 is another new addition to the Big Red Line of lift equipment at
Taylor Machine Works. The 117-inch wheelbase PTX-550 has a rated capacity of 55,000 pounds at 51-inch load center. Designed and built specifically to lift and maneuver palletized materials, the PTX-550 incorporates many innovative and performance-proven features for which Taylor trucks are known.
The PTX-550 is powered by a Tier III certified 4-cylinder 130-horsepower electronic turbocharged, charge air after-cooled diesel. The hydrostatic drive system utilizes heavy-duty Auburn
® hubs and Rex Roth
® wheel motors and hydrostat pump. The drive and hydraulic systems are cooled by an air to oil cooler.
The rugged chassis is all-welded with large hinged doors providing easy ground level access to all service points. The direct lift platform has dual cylinders mounted between the frame rails with heavy links that guide and maintain constant control of the deck and load. The platform provides 4-in. rise and can be safely and easily removed. An optional trailer towing eye is available in the platform to provide additional towing capabilities.
The operator base includes a seat that rotates 180° for ergonomic comfort and ease in maneuverability. An electric joystick provides fingertip controls for smooth, precise handling. Steering for the PTX-550 is easily handled with a mini-wheel located in the left hand armrest. The conveniently located joystick located in the right hand armrest controls forward and reverse vehicle motion, engine RPM, and vehicle speed. The PTX-550 has a one-piece instrument panel for easy servicing. The 12-volt electrical system has electrical gauges and reset circuit breakers with anti-restart key-type ignition system.

The standard TICS (Taylor Integrated Control System) utilizes J1939 CANbus technology. As a result hard-wiring needs are reduced and access to controls and performance data has been significantly expanded. An instrument panel mounted control monitor replaces the analog gauges and meters with displays providing standard operating data. Many operational functions and capabilities are defined and adjusted through the TICS system. Information related to performance and maintenance needs, electronic diagnostic functions including fault code history, and built-in shutdown system for engine and transmission protection are among the many resources available through TICS.
The fuel tank and the hydraulic tank each have a 33-gallon capacity. The hydraulic system has a wire-mesh strainer and a full-flow 10-micron return line filter with a replaceable element. Additionally, a separate filter for the hydrostatic pump charge circuit is standard equipment.
The PTX-550 includes the durability and dependability that have been Taylor traditions for more than 80 years. Through the Taylor world-wide dealer network and the Sudden Service, Inc. after-market parts and service operations, Taylor customers can be assured consistent and reliable support will be readily available to keep their Taylor fork lifts on the job providing the productivity needed for improved bottom-line performance for many years of service.
