Motorola's new vehicle-mounted portable computer range, the VC6096, promises Australian and New Zealand businesses unprecedented on-board computing.

Running on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system and sporting a large QWERTY keyboard with touchscreen display, the VC6096 is easily installed on any model forklift, in any warehouse environment.

The rugged VC6096 from Motorola will withstand harsh work environments and meets even the strictest military specifications for vibration, shock, dust and solar radiation abuse, ensuring that it is always ready for any task.

The computer includes complete telematics support, allowing employers to keep an eye on drivers' driving habits and vehicle engine status.

Providing a real-time communication between the warehouse management system and the forklift, the operator can scan in or out any stock without leaving the driver's seat. And, with approximately 80% of forklift driver accidents occurring while the driver is getting off and on the forklift, this intelligent solution greatly reduces OH&S risks and improves driver comfort.

The VC6096 is the most advanced vehicle-mountable mobile computer available - with a processor speed of 624Mhz, 128MB of RAM, 256MB of internal flash memory, a slot for SD memory cards, and 5 hot-keys, in-built microphone and speakers all as standard. For unsurpassed connectivity the VC6096 boasts WiFi (802.11a/b/g), 3.5 GSM, HSDPA, WWAN, and Bluetooth. Lastly, there is a GPS receiver - SiRF Star III - so if the forklift is out in the yard, its location can be monitored.

There's very little the VC6096 cannot do. It's a powerful Windows-based computer capable of running thousands of applications. Complete with support for voice and data via high-speed 3G mobile networks, which means it can be used for voice calls as well as for data transmission. The WiFi and Bluetooth facilitates Web browsing or high-speed data transfer when within range of a hotspot or company wireless network, and drivers can use Bluetooth-connected peripherals including bardcode readers and imagers. Integrated GPS means not only mapping and direction, but also any number of location-based services.
