Hi, My son is thinking of emegrating to Canada and I was wondering if his UK qualifications as a lift truck operator/instructor/instructor tutor were valid in Canada ?

The requirements in Canada vary between each Province or Territory. In most, if not all locations, your son's background and training most likely exceed any existing requirements. You would have to check with the Occupational Health and Safety agency for the Province or Territory to which your son desires to move to or work in for specifics.

Using Google, Search:

Occupational Health and Safety (insert Province or Territory)

Yor son should be able to reach a home page web site that will give contact information for the specific Province or Territory.

As a Canadian trainer, specifically Ontario and Quebec, I would have to say that the training that your son has received should suffice however it may be up to the discretion of an officer as to whether he/she would acccept such proof, and if they are sticklers, would prefer to see that your son was trained in Canada, or specifically, the province in which he may reside.

I have trained Britons and from what they tell me, the operational and safety rules are fairly close.

As far as I can tell, the main differences between the two countries would be fines and punishments.

Hi guys, thanks for your input.  I sometimes use a Canadian film if im delivering H&S training which is almost word for word the same as UK law.  My son is flying to Vancouver in September for a couple of weeks to see if Canada would suit him & he suits Canada.  Again, thanks for your input, much appreciated

Morning Joseph, Thank you for taking the time & trouble sending this information.  I go to the worksafebc site quite often, I wish the UK had someplace to go to find the kind of films you get there.
We had a few ideas of jobs my son & his girlfriend could do if the worst came to the worst. My son is keen to try anything but his girlfriend was none too keen on crab fishing in the Bearing sea.
Joking aside they are very much looking forward to their trip and potential emigration. To be honest if i were 10 years younger I know I'd be joining them.
Thanks again, again much appreciated
