I would like to know more about loading of containers into barges using reach stackers in ariver side port. Loaded containers are to be lifted from 2meters below the ground level from from 1st and 2nd row. What type of reach stackers are suitable. Remarks/ proposals solicited.
Whether Calmar DRSdrs 4531-S5 could do the work.Is there any modification to the original Equipment (Standard ) required

Konecranes SMV pioneered barge loading reach stackers and have a production model listed in their catalogue - check out the SMV 4545 TB3 model. You won't need to look elsewhere.

your choise of machine will be effected by your budget

The liebherr lrs 645 is best suited simply by design alone,
look it up on you tube to see it working
I think it was a simply brilliant idea to design a curve shaped boom.

The liebherr 645 will be able to deposit the load much lower.
any other reach stacker might have to resort to hooking up with chains if the quay side is to high and or there are issues with the tide for instance.
Please go to youtube so you can see what I mean!

Also SMV (konecranes)make very very good machines,
I have worked with them and like them very much.
Good cab design and sensibly located controls on left and right.
They are very stable and capable machines not to be underestimated in any way.

SMV KONE CRANE is best for you... i've worked for these machines in SAudi Arabai and i can say no hassle, faster speed and operator friendly controls. Technically, machine works well and has high temperature tolerances.

KoneCranes SMV is one of the best for the job, the biggest SMV does 45 T in the 3rd row!
The Kalmar DRS 4531 can only lift 31 T in the 2nd row.

If that is enough weight you can try to modify the machine, but it's a lot of work and to be honest is the DRS not one of the best machines on the market. (it's originally a Sisu)

Should preferably have stabilizing legs in the front, so you minimize the chances of tipping over forward in case of a heavy load in those one off containers

The very big machines for barge handling cannot have stabilizer jacks as the ground pressure is too great and too close to the harbour wall. What can't be achieved with jacks has to be compensated with longer wheelbase.

Dave, it depends on what is the definition of a barge truck? A standard machine can load onto a barge with extensions to the spreader to reach into the base of a barge as opposed to those machines which are specifically designed for it.

A true barge handler I think should have sufficient capacity to load 3 or 4 wide with the bottom container being below ground level.

I sure think I drove past Peineman last month on my way to look at future land ,love the way they use a reach stacker to supply the 40 tonne blocks :>)
Anyway the 45 tonne lift in the third row is of interest to me as we continuesly reach over the railway tracks to the next line to reload our trains , The biggest hysters incidently, cannot handle a 32 tonne lift from that far unless we use the override.
For another purpose do you have any idea which reach stacker has the highest cab position?

You are in the UK so it would make sense to buy one there and save on transport cost, but to give you an idea the hyster reach stackers we use cost $ 1,5 million (aus) each when new.

The Smv 4545CBX5 can lift 33 T in third row without suppot jacks, with jacks 45 T in the 3rd row. Smv can be equipped with hydraulic lift cabin.
Cabin is placed at the rigth frond fender an can rise about 5  meters up.
Check te spec checker on this site an look for the 4537CAX5 for a picture.

Thanks for the quick reply,I like the smv i was on them when i worked in the west australian ports.
The weight statistics are good for the machine you mention but here is the thing, the reason for a higher cab is because i reload a grain hopper where the top of the boom is at 5 meters maximum height,I would like to be able to suggest a machine (rumours they are buying another) where the cab is higher so i can leap frog the containers for at the moment i cannot see due to restrictive height but a after market raised cab might crack the top glass and whats worse ,whats under it or do i misunderstand that i still have to google the picture and maybe that will explain it all :>)

Hi Guys;

Find it strange that nobody can give me a ballpark price on a Reach Stacker and Empty container handler.

Just need approximate numbers for upcoming project, on the high side is ok.

Thanks

Have a look at some of my recent posts (up 4) or why not contact a dealer yourself or look around this site.
Depending on how the machine gets to your site might also be a factor to take in consideration.
There are cheaper ones than i use and you should get something from $100000,and remember that this is an Australian site.
New Omegas start at around $600000.

Hi depending on what type of truck you are looking for but here are some idea on prices a general price for a Reach stacker will start at around  300,000 Euro for a  Sany  and start at around 370,000 euro for a more established company  A Empty Container handling Truck at 8,000kg will start at around 175,000 euro a bigger 9,000 kg from one of the main manufactures will come in at 230,000 Euro again you would have to have a look round because you could get a good deal at the moment

On Reach stacker's you can have six or more different models so these prices will depend on what model you look at but they are around right for the starting models . Again with Empties there is around the same but again these prices wont be far away from what you could expect to pay . You will be lucky for a company to give you a price they will want to do site visit and all sorts of other things but you will get a  price .

Linde do Linde in the UK Barlow Hyster , Kalmar might come direct from Coventry Kone is Cooper specialist handling they are quite good Rushlift might have SVE and Terex or and Terex have there own branch in Manchester , If you are looking at the UK these are the main players . Shad group also do CVS
