during my 7 years with barloworld the people overseas get treated much better than in the U.S. over here your just a number, no loyalty, no thanks for a job well done. Just what have you done for me lately. And if you are in the Florida division your even in worse shape, because the good old boy that oversees the division has his good old buddies in place. Maybe someone from the other side of the pond should here the truth. |

Hey heard about an upper management shake up at Barloworld U.S. division managers demoted to branch managers, corporate sales management demoted to division managers, positions created to keep the goog old boys that need to go, in the company.
As usual the leaders that continue to fail stay employed and the "grunts" that are face to face with the customers still struggle to get enough hours to make a full paycheck.
It's sad, for a few years there, they had it going in the right direction, putting the right people in place in the right positions. Times get a little tough and they are right back to there old ways. |

Exact same reshuffle over the pond here in the UK, not complete yet but corporate salesman and account managers rumoured to go and divisional managers jobs , 3 directors gone or going as well.
At least no engineers or customer facing staff to lose jobs yet. |

When are they going to realize that the problem is all that "DEAD WEIGHT" management that has been there for the last few years. Wrenn Handling was a great Hyster Dealer and was not to bad as WrennBrungart, but when it went to Barloworld, the decline began. The MICROMANAGEMENT PHILOSOPHY of Barloworld is pathetic, they do not want anyone who can think for themselves, they love Robots that do not ever question anything no matter how rediculous it is. |

Barloworld became extremely top heavy.
Wrenn Handling got it done at the dealer level.
Barloworld management believed that customers would line up for the privilege of doing business with them. Barloworld did not adjust to doing business the way that customers wanted it done. What they have found out is that customers have other choices. Like I have said before, most of the good employees at Barloworld flew the coop a long time ago. Most of the upper management at Barloworld's Corporate Offices would not have been qualified to run a branch during the Wrenn Handling days. |

WOW it's nice to see so many others have had the same experience.
They have so much potential to be a great place to work for. They offer great benefits, but the management practices continue to ruin the potential.
Now I know I'm not the only disgruntled ex employee. |

Wrenn Brothers built that company from the ground up with Customer Service and Satisfaction as their goal. They believed that if you take care of the Customer, the bottom line would take care of itself. They saw Customers as People, not just a "SOURCE of PROFIT
and REVENUE.
When the "Bottom Line" takes priority over Customer Service and Satisfaction, You will see a Decline and the Beginning of the End of that business.
When you "Squelch" the voices of your employees and their creativity as well as their Talents and Abilities, you are missing out on a Wealth of Growth and profit.

Roadrat, do you remember when Barloworld decided to "fire" customers back in 1999/2000? They fired customers that did not meet their ROI criteria. Then the market dropped and the branches were asked to go get these customers back around 2001/2002. Those customers that were "fired" politely told Barloworld where they could stick it. |

we had to do the same thing in Fl.
Longtime customers all of a sudden we didn't want any more, then 9-11 happened.
Even C.O.D. customers they don't want any more, we turned away probably 20 long time customers that never had a problem paying C.O.D. because their credit was not good enough to set up an account. |

Glittlestar, that was a major difference in the business philosophy between Wrenn/Brungart and Barloworld. It proved to be a major league mistake that they are still paying for. They did not only lose the service business of these customers, they lost the future truck sales to them as well.
It costs ten times more to gain a new customer than to keep an existing one.
The funny thing is that the former president of Barloworld made that statement in a sales meeting. |

They wonder why they continue to go throught the same cycles. They will only continue to get to the same plateau until they change their business beliefs.
If they can't convince the shareholders to go out on a limb for a while to turn the boat around |
