Getting Old Hyster running right.

Hello all, I work for a very small company in Northern VT. We just bought our first fork lift, Its a 84 ( what I was told) Hyster with a Continental F227 L head running on propane. Came with NO paperwork and the data plate is missing. Does anyone know where I can find a manual online? Or even what model it is? Serial # on the engine is 76165

Its an 8k capacity, but we dont lift anything over 2.5. Mostly used for moving pallets of product from production room to warehouse, and onto trucks.

Seems to run fine, but has always "clicked" a couple time before starting, came in on monday and all it did was click. Getting 12.5 volts to the solenoid, but nothing to to the starter, so I got another solenoid, but cracked the plastic cap on top tightening down the positive wire. Dam, switched caps with the old non working solenoid and did the same thing. Shoot. So I have one coming in tomorrow, and ill try to be more careful with that one. Hopefully that fixes it. Right now its a 16k paper weight. Haha.

It also seems to be leaking oil from underneath. From doing some reading it seems that its common to have a leak at the bellhousing. Not sure what it takes to repair, but will try to do some more reading.

It's sound like the truck is an H80C. Most of these trucks that I've seen are equipped with oil clutches. between the engine, transmission, speed reducer and oil clutch its pretty hard to correct all of the leaks.

I disagree with the location that MEngr gave you. The S/N will be stamped in the frame on the right hand side directly beside the battery box. You'll need to scrape to find it though. The serial number sequence he gave is correct. Happy Hunting! On the oil leak, the Continental engines have rope seals for the front and rear mains. If the seal gets hard, as it does over time, and you have a little play in the crank shaft it'll allow oil to seek past the seals. Very common ocurrance.

I put the new solenoid in this AM and she started right up.

Ill look for the serial number this afternoon.

Hardwick;
Go to the right rear fender area for the model/serial numbers that were stamped into the chassis at the time of production. The numbers and letters should read like C5D1645A.
