Discussion:  Trying to identify an old Yale electric forklift

I acquired an old Yale electric forklift that had been abandoned in a pole barn on a piece of property I bought last year, and I could use some help in identifying it and determining its value.

It's got a hard to read wiring diagram that reads "Warehouser Rider Straddle Truck Equipped for Single Hydraulic Function", and is dated Feb 1955. Under the date is "35-18".

The closest match to it that I've found searching online has been the 1958 model RBF40x4T096 at www.forkliftaction.com/yaleoldesttruck/, but I haven't been able to find any additional information searching for that model number.

I've also got a Hertner battery charger, model 3SF6-600, and the battery, which is labeled DT55734 with a service weight of 784 lbs.

I know it was working a few years ago due to the tire marks all over the concrete floor, but the previous owners let it sit for a few years after their business failed, and now the battery is very dead.

I've got several photos on my website, which you can view at:

www dot shoden dot org /images/forklift/

I had size all of these to 640 wide assuming I'd be able to include them in this message, so if you need to see larger picture, let me know and I'll get them uploaded.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

Your's is a reach truck, the forks will reach out. The picture of the RBF is a straddle truck, the outrigger legs, with the wheels on them, are wide enough to straddle the pallet. Your wiring diagram, for a straddle truck, is not for your truck, but probably the same. In the 60's Yale called the reach truck a RDE and the straddle a RDF. Your's may be a the earlier version of the RDE, called a Warehouser Extend-A- Load. I think I found a manual on E Bay for it, item # 360375375648. Here is the newer version RDE, item # 380354222387.
As for value, OMG!, it is a completely obsolete 12 volt, resistor controlled, hunk of scrap metal. The battery is worth more per pound than steel so if you do junk it make sure you are aware of that. Value is about $400- $500 ??

Thanks for the info.  I was guessing it might just be worth its weight in scrap value, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't scrapping some vintage classic :)
