we recently purchased a several brand new crowns , all are great quility but as far as speed and control we are finding the older raymonds are much more productive(we have both), i was wondering is this common , we are not worried about breakdown so much since we have on staff forklift mechanics , all trucks are in a freezer apllication , or is there something we can do . we have puchased brand new reachtruck, quad mast dockstocker and , ride-on power jacks

speed kills
slow down
1 major accident all that productivity is down the drain (personal injury, death, property damage)
and in a freezer??? where ice collects??? cmon use your head
most of my freezer customers have me turn the max speed down to prevent accidents
loading a truck in record time = saves 50 dollars
having a safe work enviroment = priceless

The Dockstocker and the Pacer are similar units.  There is a pass code needed to set the speeds which your dealer should have provided.
Travel and hydraulic speeds may be set to meet your specific needs.
With a Quad upright hydraulic speed may need to be raised.  Travel speed should not be too high but when using in and out of a trailer has to be high enough to provide enough power to transition over the dock equipment being used.
As only you know your application, operator capabilities, and production needs it should be your decision but it will also be your liability should something happen.  A safe and productive work environment is important while serving your customers needs.
I suggest discussing it with the folks who sold you the equipment.

You siad that you purchased new crown trucks & they arew different than Raymonds.
If your operaters are skilled with the raymonds they may not wish to use the crown trucks assuming that the crowns have been set up for your application properly there should be no concerns.

However is the steering the same ??? also the crown reach can be set up according to your appliction - Personally i would not want Freezer trucks flying arround my warehouse-- so contact your crown rep & have him send someone out to set up your trucks .

Any reputable canadian dealer would have sent out someone to Install your trucks properly for you -- Pick up the phone if you feel this is the case.

However make sure that your people want to use these machines & are not just using this as an excuse to do less -- secondly ask them if they need more time to adjust to the new trucks also

Me thinks you need to provide more information first.

1.  You did not mentioned what type of Crown units you bought,  the voltage of the units and what mast , etc .  the untis were equipped with..  This needs to be clarified

2.  What speeds are you talking about - lifting speeds, travel speeds, reach speeds or what?  Some folks that have replied are assuming travel speeds.   This also needs to be clarified.

3.  Were the units equipped with cold or freezer storage protection - was the correct fluid installed for the  operating temperation & time in the  cold enviroment.  Oil viscosity can have an effect on travel, lift, reach, etc. speeds.  Don't assume it was - remember this is 2007 & people to build the units.  This should be verified.

4.  What is the actual temp. of the cold/freezer operating enviroment - not the freezer rating.

Once this information is definedd then more accurate rresponses can be provided.

John is correct. for the next warehouse I would eliminate lift trucks and the workers and use the new concept of aisle changing staker cranes. The ones that run on all AC power. their speeds will double-triple any lift truck.
