My company now wants to make the road techs start punching a time clock thanks to the new management set on trying to make things better. That means driving to the shop in your personal vehicle to punch the clock then getting in your service van and driving to the customer, same goes for at the end of the day and you MUST punch out at your schedule time. I asked what if we get stuck in traffic or something happens to where we can not get back to punch out on time and I got no answer from the management. To me this screams lost production due to the excessive travel time at the companies expense and lost revenue. I am not a manager nor do I have management training but even I can figure this out. Do you guys/gals have any experience with situations like this?

you work for some very "odd" people. i hope things improve for you but once the bean counters take over and the managers are sent packing things usually get pretty bad before ownership sees the error of their ways. when the figures get large it gets hard for the bean's to make a distinction between lift trucks and people. blood, guts, and metal all turn in to "paper or plastic". my heart goes out to you.
