Just heard of a thing that don`t make any sense. A large forklift company has circulated a letter asking its engineers  to put forward for redundancy(not unusual in these tough times) But heres the puzzle said company work from supplying engineers jobs to their computers, engineers already have jobs to take them into the new year with no hope of catching up.So if you take away more engineers who`s going to do the work? Does any of this make sense to anyone?

what, do expect manglement to work in a manner that is logical? are you nuts?
really tho,
budget looks forward by looking backward.
workload looks forward by looking forward.
so they don't get the same view all the time, even if they think they are looking at the same thing.
The squeaky wheel gets the oil, the work that doesn't get done didn't need doing.
the unspoken reason may well be that if the customer can not get his fine piece of sh//// err, equipment repaired promptly, maybe they will purchase a new one that doesn't need so many repairs.
Isn't it a new truck salesperson that runs the company?

Just because you are busy, it does not mean every engineer is busy.  Also, just because each engineer has been made "available" for redundancy does not mean you will all be made redundant.  It is possible for this method can be used to cherry pick who actually goes.

You seem to have plenty of "inside" knowledge of one particular company daryl j.Stick to what you really know instead of idle brew time gossip

never doubted you, just wanted to verify the problem was not with "my" orange or "red" line.
sometimes you (i hope this not an insulting term) blokes get the news before we do. frrom what i can tell you refer to your service personell as "engineers", does this imply that a college degree is required to qualify?

No I must admit it is an umberlla term for our personnel and to be honest I would not let half of them loose looking after a hole in a wall. But that is a totally different subject.
However I will say this one of my mates pet hates is having service controllers/managers who have no engineering qualifications what so ever telling him how he should do his job.

A long time ago I used to work with a guy that when he suspected some thing going on in his firm used to start a rumour about it then in a couple of weeks by the time the rumour had got round to the top brass it was either denied or confirmed one way or another he got his answer. Now all this happened many moons ago. now because of the e mail and internet it all moves too fast to gather any credability so it does not brew if you like.
on the other hand it is probably best because companys can be crushed in as little as an afternoon with a miss placed comment.

i can honestly say that i have never allowed anyone "boss or not" to tell me how to fix something. what and when and sometimes cheap or right but not how. when i am responsible for some one's safety i trust my judgement above all others. i have been face to face screaming with forehead veins sticking out and nearly been to fists over this subject on several occasions and have won all the battles so far. i have not hurt any one in 28 years and don't want that to change.
thanks for your info on the "engineers" subject.

I won`t go into details but in my recent past I was finished because i refused to service a manup order picking truck because my then service controller told me I didn`t need any equipment or parts. I then sent him an e mail telling him he was wrong and was told my e mail had an attitude.   Any who If I had a pot of money I would have sued the pants off them but I am only small fry and they don`t have to listen even if it`s not safe.
profit before personnel.

I have in the past worked with some great lads however they were great at their chosen profession one was a painter and the other was a welder both of these lads were sent out by the firm to service and repair forklifts with no qualifications as mechanics/fitters ,engineers. they were sent to do the job by service controllers/managers who either do not know the difference or don`t care because it is another customer ticked off their jobs list.

you have got to have healthy gossip to keep up the fun when you go to work otherwise what is the point you just end up listening to the drivel from management.

If you mean healthy gossip then keep it at work daryl j.If you are not happy with the way things are going then leave,i did !.
The company is now run by Kion and the dweebs that fooked up dac. So if you are used to the still way then put up and shut up.If you are part of the dac structure good luck,it will change i am  sure of that.
