Curious...why is it that most forklift dealers purchase chargers through a battery dealer?  Trying to understand this side of the business

Great Question:
one of our product line items are chargers, dealer cost from us would be 1/2 what they are currently paying for traditional "big name" chargers.

common objection we face daily is fear
battery dealers tell forklift companies that they must use the battery dealers charger otherwise warranty will be void on the purchase of the batteries...terrible isn't it

interesting...yet still confusion.  First off, it is ILLEGAL for ANY BATTERY manufacturer to void warranty if the battery is put with someone else's charger...so this arguement should go up in smoke.  Secondly, based on experience, how many times during a service call does problem occur with the battery or the charger?  Most times, I find the problem is with the battery and not the charger.  Thirdly, selling "product" bring in decent margins and revenues however what I do know is one makes their money on service...why don't truck dealers take the opportunity to learn to service the battery and charger and ultimately help their bottom line profits?  Service is a huge money generating business...not sure why more truck dealers are not taking advantage of it!!!!

Interesting discussion - Advancements in charger technology are rapidly making the old view of matching chargers and batteries by battery dealers obsolete.  The better chargers sold today auto-recognize what they are attached to and take care of the rest.  Also, it seems that the best of the new "fast chargers" can provide graphical data downloads that tell the charging history of each battery and even the health status of groups of cells!  That should end any debate as to what happened if a problem arises.   My guess is this opens the doors for forklift dealers to sell packaged truck and fast charger systems for great margins.
