Our company is based here in the Philippines (Southeast Asia). Our company is an exclusive distributor of a particular forklift brand from Japan. It had ben discussed in the company to create a subsection on Forklift Rental. This task was assigned to me. Our company is only well experience in dealing with selling brand new units. However, forklift rental is quite a new playground for us. I need you to share your opinion on how I should go about penetrating the rental market in the Philippines. There are quite a few companies here in the Philippines that are doing the same thing. I would like our forklift rental department to be competitive in service, rates and many other things that includes forklift rental. Please advise me on the things I should look out for and the things I should do to penetrate the market. As of the moment, we ned to have a baseline data or opinion for us to know the direction of the rental market that the company will develop. Thanks a lot...

Just read your posting.
The long term contract hire can be a profitable and also costly business to be in. I could write all day on this subject but it would be pointless if you have started to experiance this venture.
If you reply back, i would be happy to help.

Dear Tycoon,
Rental business is now getting popular in Singapore. It really depends on how you really want to do this. You have to know the working hours of the rented forklift. If the rented forklifts are to have heavy usage, then rental charges will be higher. For long term rental (say 3 years or more), normally they will be new forklifts. For normal usage (in Singapore - 8 hours a day) your return of investment on the forklift is usually 3 years with only free replacement of tyres once for front and two for back tyresper year. Any misuse or operators negligence are not included. Please bear in mind that if customer want 24/7 service, then different rate will apply. Hope this will give you a rough idea on forklift rental business. You must also know what environment are the forklifts working in.
