Can anyone tell me what they know or have heard about this company and this new technology. . .anything! Good/Bad?

I had the good fortune to operate an AIRTRAX forklift when I went to the AIRTRAX plant in New Jersey, about a month ago.  I was on an analysis mission to determine the suitability of a certain training system for the AIRTRAX "sidewinder" model.

Their counterbalance truck is a totally unique experience to drive!  For those who are unfamiliar, the wheel system allows the truck to move sideways, or in any direction at all.  It can turn 360 degrees in its own footprint.  It has two joysticks mounted on the armrests that control respectively the hydraulic movement and the wheel system movement.

This electric powered truck has NO steering wheel, NO accelerator pedal, NO brake pedal, and operates in 4-wheel drive at all times.  It has a slightly lower center of gravity compared to the typical truck, and is designed for "short haul" environments; especially where space is at a premium.

It is the most unique forklift operating experience I ever had on a powered industrial truck! And I'm confident that because it has many fewer parts than the typical CounterBalance truck, its repair costs will probably make it an attractive choice for allot of companies.  I also understand that AIRTRAX is mounting their wheel system on a scissors lift, and in the future, a wheel chair. I've seen these at the trade shows over the past several years and they definately meet my threshold for being very "cool". They obviously have capabilities beyond any other lift truck (they can move in any direction) and I would love to have an opportunity to test drive one. That being said, when I look back at the various work environments I have been exposed to (as a warehouse operations consultant) I am at a loss to recall an operatoin that needs one of these.
