Trying to do some market sizing / segmentation - doesn't seem to be much reliable info out there. Any help is appreciated...

For North America (US & CAN), can anyone tell me the distribution of Class 1,2 and 3 trucks by fleet size?

Are 80% of lift trucks at facilities with 100+ fleets? 50%?

Would really like, number of fleets that have 1 to 4 trucks, 5 to 10, 10 to 25, 25 to 50, 50 to 100, 100+ (or some similar breakdown).

Any ideas, info, or ideas on any place to find such information?

To the best of my knowledge, there is nothing of public record to provide the information you are loking for. I spent 41 years in the business and had experience with market data for 3 lift truck companies.
Data such as that is tracted by individual dealerships (not all do it) by account in their assigned territory to classify account A, B, C, D, etc.

The Industrial Truck Association (ITA) keeps tract of data reported by members ( most lift truck manufacters belong to, not all), they collect data wholesal orders/shipment and retail orders/shipments (as reported by their respective dealers). The data publishdc at the retail level is by state, county and SIC codes and is a total number reported by the members. From this data each member can determine market share at both wholes & retail. This data is collect for US, Canada and I believe Mexico now.

Thanks. yeah, that's pretty much what I figured and what I've come across too - data held by individual oems or distributor/dealers or even 3pls, but no good national picture that segments by fleet size.

I had thought that maybe with emergence of more mega-DCs that maybe there has been some academic research done, but haven't found it.

Anyway, I appreciate the response, and welcome any other thoughts.

I agree with Johnr, possibly the ITA would be your best bet for total truck registrations in a particular APR.

Although it doesnt cover LIFT TRUCKS a source that we use for prospecting is Selectory. This is an online data base that we can use to develope reports on companies or prospects by industry, SIC, # of employees, square footage etc. The data can be as specific as a zip code, municipality, or state, depending on how you want to slice it up

Puting together a combination of data from both of these sources may get you pretty close to what you are looking for, at least enough to make some pretty solid corolations, or trends
