we have 12 units of this model. they occasionally cut out when going over metal expansion joint on the floor and shut down logging code353 usually sometimes 355.  Some trucks more than others. perform code checks but tests ok. Ive tried changing fuses, fuse panels, distribution card, access 1 2 and 3. i have upgraded software to version 19, changed ed contactor have checked all plugs and connections.  lights on access3 blink 1 then the code  indicating loss of communication between access 123 but where or how? has anyone else had these problems?

HI! Andy_n;

Unfortunately I don’t have a PDF copy of these schematics. I can copy from my books and send over by fax to you. (victor35maAtHotmail.com)

1.- Assuming you have checked continuity and voltage around all 3 controllers and let say they are all Ok.  I have experienced these codes (353, 328, and 355) all together at once when I have wrong connected/re-installed ED surge suppressor, it is installed across the ED coil contactor. Let me tell you this surge suppressor is polarity sensitive and can be mistakenly connected at first time.  it could be sorted, damaged, loose, poor connection, etc. you can check it out  by using a voltmeter with a diode check scale, check for voltage across the suppressor in the conducting( approx  0.5 volts) and non-conducting (no voltage) direction. Else you must replace it to proceed. After replacement Test if truck runs fine and no codes are found in the above check.  This suppressor failure can damage access controller 3 as well.

A brief about what  manual say;

2. Code 355 stand for; access 1 internal fault.
It truck do not operate check wiring. If they are ok Replace access 1

3. Code 353 stand for: access 3 unable to read from access 1 or access 2
Check condition of the communication links across all controllers. And then mention the procedure to check voltage, wiring and connectors.

Hope this could help you

thanks for ideas victor, i have all wiring diagrams and code explanations. when you say ed surge protector i'm assuming you mean the diode on the ed contactor coil. i have checked these and they are ok. crown australia are trying to help me as well. they suggested turning the ed contactor so it is in a upright position. this has not helped. then they suggested using contact grease on all access plugs which i  am trying now.  this is a very hard problem to diagnose because it happens only once in a while when travelling over a metal expansion joint on the floor.  it may happen once a day or once every two weeks.  i am concerned for our drivers as the machine shuts down loosing power.

At our branch we have only had 4 instances of F353 and F355 that were not simple diagnostics since the RR/RD500 range came out.
1, tracking on the distribution board
2, poor connection of the sealed plug connector at distribution board
3, faulty access 2
4, faulty access 2

We have seen intermittent problems caused by poor/loose connections. I think you going in the right direction by packing CA403 and CA405 with dielectric compound. Double check the terminals in the plugs. I use a .020 pin gauge to check for fit.

thanks for all ideas.  found problem to be a combination of problems. improper wiring of rf units and static electricity. by rewiring rf and strobe lights through k-3 relays and neg bus on access 2 and adding a static chain the combination has fixed the problem. thanks especially to crownie you have our attention.
