How many pallets deep should I store my top SKUs?

I have developed a calculator to analyze your pallets to SKU ratio. The calculator will also tell you how deep you need to store your top and bottom SKUs using different storage media.

The calculator seems to be just a little to general. We have installed a number of deep-lane automatic stacker cranes for different industries and the magic "max" seems to 10 deep. another Pharma company decided 3 deep was best for them. Maybe the calculator could include a little more detail. But great start to a very ambiguous question.

Raymond Handling Solutions, Inc. offers a deep lane solution that allows us to store very deep - as deep as 20  or 30 pallets deep or more for only $175 per pallet position.  In 2004/5, I was able to solve a space issue for a company in Toronto that needed to store 30,000 pallets of only 4 SKUs.

We provided them with 26 pallets deep lanes (the amount of pallets they could fit in an OTR trailer).  It is working very well and they are experiencing the extremely high density and productivity.
